Animal Care Specialist — Part-Time

The Animal Care Specialist role is onsite in Pell City, AL; compensation is $14–$15 per hour. The Greater Birmingham Humane Society works to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome homeless, abused, neglected, and abandoned animals. The specialist provides daily care for shelter animals and helps maintain safe, clean, orderly animal areas. The role contributes to animal welfare and adoption readiness through compassionate handling, observation, and coordination with the shelter team.

What you'll do

• Feed, clean, walk, bathe, exercise, and support the behavior of animals
• clean and sanitize crates and equipment
• assist with animal loading and unloading
• maintain clean, stocked animal areas and adoption-floor comfort
• observe and report behavior and medical concerns
• maintain animal identification cards and neck bands
• assist with laundry and facility cleaning
• follow veterinarian-directed nutrition and medical guidelines
• provide information to visitors and customer service
• work with volunteers and the adoption team.
