The Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) is an onsite role based in North Charleston, SC. Compensation is specified as $36.00 to $40.00 per hour, and this position supports the home health department of Interim HealthCare Staffing. This role exists to provide personalized, home-based therapy services that help patients regain independence and perform daily activities. The COTA works under the supervision of an occupational therapist to implement treatment plans, educate patients and caregivers, and document progress toward functional goals.

What you'll do

• Participates in ongoing interdisciplinary assessment of the patient.
• Acts at the direction and under the supervision of the treating occupational therapist and in accordance with the plan of care.
• Participates in the development and evaluation of the plan of care in partnership with the patient, representative, and caregiver.
• Provides services that are ordered by the physician as indicated in the plan of care.
• Assists the treating occupational therapist in documenting a patient’s progress and response to treatment.
• Teaches task-oriented therapeutic activities designed to restore physical function, as well as sensory-integrative function.
• Teaches compensatory technique to improve the level of independence in the activities of daily living.
• Completes and submits timely, legible, accurate, relevant, and sufficient clinical documentation.
• Counsels and educates the patient and the family, and other caregivers to promote patient progress toward mutually established goals.
• Effectively communicates with other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
• Communicates with all physicians involved in the plan of care and other health care practitioners.
• Participates in Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement program.
