The Directional Drill Operator / Locator role is onsite in Whitmore Lake, MI, with field work installing fiber conduit in urban, suburban, and rural environments. Pay is $25–$35 per hour. National Fiber Construction Co. performs underground and aerial telecommunications construction and directional boring for major carriers and municipal clients across Michigan. The role helps field crews install fiber conduit safely and accurately by operating directional drilling equipment or locating the drill head, coordinating bore paths around existing utilities, and documenting work. It also supports rig setup, site restoration, and adherence to safety requirements.

What you'll do

• Operate Ditch Witch directional drills or electronic locating systems
• coordinate bore path, grade, and utility clearance
• interpret construction prints, bore plans, utility locates, and shot sheets
• perform potholing and crossing verification
• manage drilling fluids
• maintain bore logs, as-builts, redlines, and daily production records
• assist with rig setup, teardown, tooling changes, and site restoration
• participate in safety briefings and report conflicts or hazards.

Why this role

Requires 2+ years operating HDD rigs or locating in telecom/utility construction, ability to read construction drawings and utility maps, and a valid driver's license. CDL is preferred; willingness to obtain one with company support is required.
