Housing Inspector

Job overview

The Housing Inspector role is onsite in Newport, KY, with pay of $25–$31 per hour. The position is in the Campbell County Fiscal Court Housing Department and supports inspections under housing quality and property standards. The inspector evaluates residential properties, documents conditions, and follows up on repairs to help ensure compliance with applicable housing, building, and maintenance requirements. The role also supports housing program administration through records, rent reasonableness information, and owner and tenant communication.

What you'll do

• Schedule inspections and notify landlords and tenants
• inspect single- and multi-family properties for compliance with HQS/NSPIRE and applicable codes
• complete checklists and maintain inspection records
• conduct pre-lease, biennial, re-, and special inspections
• advise owners and tenants about repairs and verify completion
• negotiate contract rent when necessary and assist with fair market rent and payment standards
• collect rent reasonableness information
• enter data for HUD reporting
• conduct owner education and outreach.

Why this role

Full-time, 70 hours biweekly. Requires two years of housing, real estate, construction, or property inspection experience, or equivalent education and experience; valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record; relevant housing inspection certification or ability to obtain it within 60 days.
