Finance and Business Operations Lead

The Finance and Business Operations Lead role is onsite in Chicago, IL, with a salary range of $100,000–$125,000 per year. OceanComm develops wireless underwater modems that use sound waves to transfer data and control undersea drones with live video feedback. Reporting to the CEO, the lead owns financial planning and accounting operations while managing key HR, contract, and compliance workflows. The role builds durable systems, documentation, dashboards, and automation to support the company’s planned growth from 15 to more than 300 employees.

What you'll do

• Partner with the CEO on pricing, margins, working capital, and resource allocation
• maintain financial projections and the operating model
• coordinate accounting workflows with the external accounting firm
• prepare payroll inputs, enforce expense policy, follow up on accounts receivable, and review accounts payable
• manage onboarding, offboarding, benefits administration, employee records, and performance-review logistics
• prepare standard forms and flag unusual contract terms
• support compliance processes
• create SOPs, trackers, dashboards, approval workflows, and automation.
