Head Swim Instructor

Job overview

The Head Swim Instructor role is onsite in Oakland, CA, supporting the City of Piedmont’s aquatics program. Compensation is $23–$28 per hour. The City of Piedmont is opening a new all-electric community pool with competition and activity pools and a bathhouse. The instructor plans and teaches aquatic lessons and camps, helps ensure sessions are safe and effective, and mentors swim instructors. The role supports participant skill development and continuity across the city’s swim lesson sessions and aquatic programs.

What you'll do

• Teach swim and water-safety lessons to participants of all ages
• demonstrate stroke mechanics and provide individualized feedback
• help design lesson plans and assess participant skill levels
• monitor safety and pool conditions
• record attendance, progress, and incidents
• assign classes and prepare instructors
• mentor, observe, coach, and co-teach with instructors
• communicate with participants and parents
• assist with aquatic events and program development.

Why this role

Requires at least two years of successful swim teaching or coaching experience and extensive swim experience. American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification is required within six months of hire or promotion; First Aid/CPR with AED is required.
