Senior Staff Software Development Engineer, Layer 7 Security & Proxy

Job overview

The Senior Staff Software Development Engineer, Layer 7 Security & Proxy role is hybrid, with a minimum of three days per week in Zscaler’s Santa Clara, CA office. The annual base salary range is $180,000–$225,000. The position reports to the Director of Software Development Engineering in the Zero Trust Exchange department. The engineer provides technical leadership for ZIA proxy architecture, helping modernize the codebase and improve production quality. The role supports delivery of proxy roadmap features by guiding architecture, implementation, and engineering practices for scalable network security systems.

What you'll do

• Support end-to-end QUIC/HTTP/3 and HTTP/2 proxy and TLS/SSL architecture
• define and evolve ZIA proxy architecture
• partner with Product Management and engineering on solution design and delivery
• establish reference architectures and design patterns
• provide technical leadership, mentoring, and architectural governance.
