Patent Paralegal

The Patent Paralegal role is hybrid, with two days per week in person at the San Francisco, CA office. Compensation is not specified. The role is a six-month initial contract with potential extension and is not currently intended to convert to a permanent position. It supports the IP Operations team and reports to the Principal Patent Paralegal. The paralegal coordinates U.S. and foreign patent filing and prosecution, helping protect the organization’s innovations. The role prepares and files patent documents, supports attorneys and outside counsel, tracks deadlines, researches patent information, and maintains compliance with patent-handling procedures.

What you'll do

• Research, prepare, and draft legal documents for international patent filings and prosecution
• prepare U.S. and PCT applications and file electronically through ePCT and Patent Center
• coordinate with internal attorneys, agents, and international law firms on office actions and filing formalities
• monitor deadlines
• respond to patent-related questions
• research patent terms, dates, priority applications, and ownership using internal and external resources
• ensure compliance with patent-handling procedures.

Why this role

Requires a bachelor’s degree, paralegal certification, or equivalent experience and at least three years of combined U.S. and foreign patent-filing experience. The schedule is a 9/80 arrangement: nine-hour days Monday through Thursday, eight-hour Fridays, and every other Friday off.
