Staff Optics Engineer

Job overview

The Staff Optics Engineer works onsite in Blacksburg, Virginia, full-time. Compensation is $130,000–$160,000 per year. The role develops and supports optical technologies for mission-critical aerospace and defense applications. As a technical leader, the engineer designs, develops, tests, and troubleshoots optical, fiber-optic, laser, and electro-optic systems. The work supports new product development and existing products throughout their lifecycle.

What you'll do

• Design, develop, test, and support optical systems and fiber-optic technologies
• use Zemax for design, simulation, and optimization
• integrate fiber-optic devices
• create technical documentation, test procedures, and manufacturing processes
• troubleshoot optical and electro-optical systems
• support manufacturing and production environments.
