What you'll do

• Set up and operate single- or multiple-spindle lathe-type screw machines with automatic indexing
• manage feeding mechanisms for metal bar stock
• interpret blueprints and job orders
• position collets, bushings, and stock pushers
• load bar stock manually or with hoists
• install and adjust cams, gears, stops, and tool holders
• verify tool positions and set cutting speeds and feed rates
• adjust machine settings
• inspect first-run and sample parts with measuring instruments
• replace worn tools and perform basic sharpening
• machine nonmetallic materials as required
• set up machines for other workers as needed
• follow safety procedures and maintain a clean work area.
