The Software Engineer (Mid/Senior) – Embedded Systems & HITL role is onsite at a customer facility in Reston, VA, with occasional work in Washington, DC. Pay is $140,000–$200,000 per year. The engineer supports a U.S. Department of Defense program developing mission-critical embedded systems. The engineer designs and integrates low-level software and hardware-in-the-loop test environments, helping the multidisciplinary team deliver and verify embedded systems in a regulated, security-conscious setting. The work includes software development, test automation, integration, and qualification support.

What you'll do

• Develop bare-metal infrastructure, drivers, and runtime services
• implement and optimize networking protocols and stacks
• profile and debug performance and real-time behavior
• produce design documentation
• develop automated test suites
• build and operate hardware-in-the-loop test environments
• author and execute test procedures
• support independent verification and validation
• analyze failures and drive defects to closure
• integrate software with hardware
• collaborate with hardware, FPGA, systems, and cybersecurity engineers
• support lab bring-up, integration, qualification, and field or flight test events
• participate in code and design reviews.
