Construction Engineering and Inspection (CEI) Inspector

Job overview

The Construction Engineering and Inspection (CEI) Inspector role is based in Mount Airy, NC, with work across North Carolina, including Asheville, Charlotte, Greensboro, Raleigh, Wilmington, and surrounding areas. Compensation is based on experience, with additional bonuses for relevant certifications. S&ME provides geotechnical, civil, environmental, and construction materials testing services. The inspector oversees construction activities and verifies compliance with plans, specifications, safety standards, and environmental requirements. The role documents field conditions, tests materials, tracks quantities and payment records, and coordinates with contractors, engineers, and stakeholders to support successful infrastructure projects.

What you'll do

• Oversee earthmoving, paving, bridge construction, and traffic control
• inspect erosion control and environmental compliance
• sample and test materials
• prepare daily inspection reports and payment records
• calculate and track material quantities and project timelines
• attend progress and safety meetings
• conduct DBE/EEO compliance surveys.
