Preschool Teaching Assistant – Special Education

Job overview

The Preschool Teaching Assistant – Special Education role is onsite in Louisville, KY. Compensation is $17.50–$21 per hour. The assistant supports certified Kentucky teachers and VIPS-Kids Town Preschool’s early intervention services for young children who are blind or visually impaired. Working under teacher supervision, the assistant adapts materials and environments, supports instruction and daily routines, and helps document student progress. The role contributes to children’s development and independence while supporting classroom activities and collaboration with families.

What you'll do

• Learn about visual impairments and their effects on development
• help promote developmental milestones
• adapt materials and environments
• assist with assessments and student-progress documentation
• support teachers working with families
• prepare materials and activities
• assist students with school-bus transitions and classroom access
• provide individual and small-group instruction under the Lead Teacher’s supervision
• supervise play and assist during drills, assemblies, field trips, meals, and snacks
• encourage independence in daily routines
• assist with hygiene routines
• maintain a clean and safe classroom
• attend trainings and report suspected child abuse to designated leadership.
