Cable Technician – Fiber Optic

Compensation is $0 per year. The Cable Technician role is onsite in Washington, DC, and work is performed during nighttime hours. The technician supports a telecommunications infrastructure refresh for a federal customer, modernizing enterprise voice, data, and fiber-optic systems across secure campuses. The role installs, tests, repairs, and documents fiber and structured cabling infrastructure across inside-plant and outside-plant environments. It contributes to campus modernization, cutovers, and reliable telecommunications service while coordinating with engineers, project managers, and government personnel.

What you'll do

• Install, splice, terminate, test, label, and troubleshoot fiber-optic cabling using OTDRs and optical testing tools
• support inside-plant and outside-plant infrastructure
• install and route fiber through conduit, trays, innerduct, and microduct
• perform fusion splicing and fiber enclosure and distribution-panel work
• support telecommunications room and pathway construction
• interpret telecom drawings and fiber route maps
• document test results, splice records, redlines, and inventory
• coordinate with project and government personnel
• comply with federal, security, safety, and confined-space requirements.

Why this role

Requires five years of relevant experience, experience leading small teams, and active DoD Top Secret clearance or U.S. citizenship with ability to obtain clearance. Work is onsite full time at night; BICSI certification is preferred.
