Software Engineering Intern, Summer 2027

Job overview

The Software Engineering Intern works onsite at Appian’s headquarters in McLean, VA, five days per week, for $50 per hour. Appian builds AI automation for important business processes at large organizations. The intern contributes to production-adjacent engineering work while learning how enterprise software is designed, built, tested, and shipped. Working with a small engineering team, the intern helps develop platform components and investigate defects while applying AI tools with attention to code quality and correctness.

What you'll do

• Contribute to full-stack components and engineering tasks using data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented programming
• use AI coding tools to generate, review, and critically evaluate code
• support issue investigation and root-cause analysis
• contribute to fixing software defects under experienced engineers’ guidance
• participate in design discussions, stand-ups, and code reviews
• translate requirements into technical solutions.
